Mail Call!

In which important things were delivered!

Wednesday was a really big mail day! The most important thing I got was the test proof of the book. This was ordered prior to my interview with Janice, so it’s basically a one-off demo copy I can have when talking about the book. It’s SO cool to hold a copy in my hands and feel the physical weight of all 512 pages! It meets all my standards, so I placed an order for additional copies so I can have some on hand to sell at The Uncanny Experience in a month’s time. I’m really looking forward to the book launch that Saturday, followed by presenting a panel honoring Peter David’s X-Factor the following day. It will be a whirlwind weekend (it really always is) and I hope to see some of you there!

Asta was the first to check the book out; she would have preferred a treat.

Speaking of cons, I’m going to be at a few! Uncanny is the first, followed by FlameCon in August and then FallCon here in the Twin Cities. I’ll post about my plans for those far-future cons (I even have a TBA panel at FlameCon!), but you should really track me down for some swag if you’ll be at one of those, too. Oh yeah- the swag! The other thing I received in the mail on Wednesday was my order of promotional bookmarks! What good is a 512 page book if you can’t mark your place in it? If you run into me at a con this year, odds are I will shove a bookmark at you (and probably a button made from some comics) to spread the Alpha Flight love. I used high quality scans of Andy Yanchus’ color guide for Issue 21 to make the bookmarks and I’m so pleased with how they turned out.

Guaranteed to fit between two pages of a book.

Speaking of Issue 21, it may be one of my favorite issues of any comic ever and Sara Century had me on her podcast to chat all about it- and the episode is live right now! Find it on your favorite podcast platform. It’s always a joy to hang out with Sara and shoot the shit about comics.

I had a chance to talk with the wonderful Chandler Poling, who wrote a great article about True North. Color me flattered that I’m on the front page of AIPT today! You can check out the written interview here and, hopefully, get a bit more insight into what it took to put this book together.

Lastly, I may have a solution for international distribution. I am waiting on a test print of the book from the service I found to see if it measures up. If not…I’ll keep searching. The nature of getting a copy printed is that it takes weeks- so the odds of me having a solution by July 1 are relatively small. However, please know I’m doing all I can to try to get this book out worldwide!
