Blurbs!

They got me blushing.

Sorry for being radio silent these past couple weeks- I have been making my final final pass through the book. Turns out that doing that with 512 pages takes quite a while! Anyway, I wanted to share the blurbs I have received for the book- I reached out to some folks I really admire and they were kind enough to read through what I wrote and speak to it.

"True North: A Complete Reference Guide and Analysis of Alpha Flight's First Volume is a labor of love that Marvel fans and lovers of this quintessential medium we call comics have been waiting for. Writer Daryl Lawrence has created a meticulously researched compendium that finally gives Canada's premier superhero team the spotlight they deserve, excavating the complete 130-issue run with the passion and dedication that only a true devotee could provide. True North contains everything from Byrne's foundational work to the lesser-known, and tragically underrepresented, later issues, Lawrence's guide is an essential reference for longtime Alpha Flight enthusiasts and an inviting entry point for curious newcomers. Lawrence's thoughtful analysis and impressive collection of creator interviews offer rare insight into this unique corner of the Marvel Universe. For anyone who's ever been intrigued by the team that blends superpowers with distinctly Canadian identity, True North isn't just recommended reading—it's required." - Stephanie Williams, Nubia & The Amazons

"An extremely comprehensive analysis of a much-neglected corner of Canadian comics history - arriving just as the True North is reassessing its identity and cultural footprint!" - Anthony Oliveira, Avengers Academy

"Daryl is a beacon of kindness and expertise within the X-Men fan community, and is a legend for taking it upon himself to craft what is quite possibly the world’s most comprehensive retrospective on Alpha Flight." - Leah Williams, X-Factor

"I wish I had this book when I was writing Alpha Flight! A comprehensive and exhaustive examination of Canada's greatest heroes." - Ed Brisson, Alpha Flight

When I tell you that I blushed when reading these- I’m not lying. This makes me all the more excited to share this book with the world in a little over a month!

I’ve also been busy coordinating my promotional schedule. This past week, I recorded my first appearance to promote the book- over on Sara Century’s incredible Best Issue Ever. We chatted all about Issue 21- which is my favorite issue of the entire run because Gilded Lily is a queen. That episode will be coming out later this summer! I’m even using some of Andy Yanchus’ color guide to promote the book- I was lucky enough to win it in an auction and it’s incredible! You can see how each and every color was called out so it would be an exact match in the printing process.

Is Lily carrying some fresh raspberries?

In my next update, I hope to share the final cover- Richard Lumsden is hard at work making everything look perfect!
